The holding company owns The East Carolina Bank, which serves individuals, small to midsized businesses, and local governments through about 25 branches in eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks. The bank, which opened in a barbershop in 1920, provides checking, savings, money market, NOW, and individual retirement accounts, plus certificates of deposit. It mainly originates real estate loans (approximately 80% of its loan portfolio), including residential and commercial mortgages and construction and land development loans.
