| RAG Aktiengesellschaft |  | RAG is no ragtag operation. RAG company is Germany's largest coal producer, its mining operations managed through coal and coke company Deutsche Steinkohle. RAG operates seven coal mines and a coking facility, all in Germany. After several years of restructuring, RAG company has pared down significantly to just the coal operations. It is now controlled by the state-run RAG Foundation. In 2007 the German government announced that conditions in the country -- both economic and environmental -- made continuation of coal mining infeasible.
