Although it has been in business since 1855, the company began focusing on seasonal (Christmas, Easter, and Valentine's Day) candy in the 1970s, following the increased competition it faced from the large US confectioners (Mars, Hershey). It now concentrates solely on Easter, offering dark or milk chocolate versions of the Gold Brick Egg and Heavenly Hash Egg, along with the Pecan Egg. Elmer Candy Corporation also makes chocolate syrup for ice cream under the Gold Brick Topping brand name.
